Brady Thomas (Stan’s Boy Flyer-Touche Baby) proved to be the best in the NOSXX race from Derby Lane on Nov. 3. It was a year ago that fans watched Brady win the NOS XVIII from Tampa. Derby Lane’s star-studded stakes field was one of the finest in the nation showcasing stakes winners and the world’s richest greyhound Flying Stanley. Brady, who was an All-America Team II recipient last year, wrote himself back on this year’s ballot with his winning performance. Randy and Patty Floyd of the Floyd & Porter kennel own Brady Thomas.
After bad racing luck in four previous stakes finals this year Brady got the break he was looking for. When the box opened he bolted out on top securing a comfortable lead in his box-to-wire victory. The field was one of the best in the nation pitting eight top quality Greyhounds who are all eligible for the upcoming Derby Lane Million.
Dermatophyte continues to impress with his second place winning effort that saw him finish just a hair from overcoming Brady at the wire. Dermatophyte won last year’s Juvenile stakes at Tampa and was last month’s runner-up in the $50,000 Fall Sprint. Dermatophyte will be a worthy opponent should he be nominated for the upcoming Million.
Flyin Bridgeport who was the runner-up in the Million Consolation in March is also a prime candidate for the 2008 Million as is the defending champion Flying Stanley who was overtaken in the homestretch for his fourth place finish just 2-lengths from the win. The complete order of finish was Brady Thomas, Dermatophyte, Flyin Bridgeport, Flying Stanley, Red Dirt Road, Ebor Hero, USS Talladega and Sol Deli.
Several Greyhounds showcased from tracks across America during the NOS XX broadcast had previously entered one of the two Million Dollar races and are eligible for the 2008 race. Any Greyhound racing in America is eligible. International entries must be registered with the NGA and meet the Derby Lane guidelines available at www.derbylane.com Click on the Million Dollar Logo.
The NOS XX race from Derby Lane was the final 550-yard stakes race for veterans this year. Derby Lane is currently running the $20,000 Fall Sprint where round two will be held Wednesday night Nov. 7. The final stakes race of 2007 will be the $75,000 660-yard challenge on Dec. 22.
