Vera is the Media Manager at Derby Lane greyhound
racetrack in St. Petersburg, FL. The track is currently celebrating
their 81st season and is the oldest continuously operating
greyhound racetrack in the world. Rich in history, the Pinellas County
icon has remained family owned and operated since 1925.
Vera is a 25-year veteran in the greyhound racing
industry. She is currently employed in St. Petersburg, FL and previously
held key positions at Wheeling Downs WV, Tri-State WV, and Dairyland
Greyhound Park WI.
Vera is currently a racing analyst on the
Greyhound Night of Stars simulcast event. The NOS is broadcast twice
each year, globally, and raises awareness and funding for greyhound
adoptions in America. Vera is a feature writer for the National
Greyhound Review and her stories and photos have been published in
other parimutuel magazines nationally and internationally. In 2003, the
National Greyhound Association named Vera the most prolific racetrack
publicist in America.
Internationally, Vera has appeared as a greyhound
analyst multiple times on Sky Network at Shelbourne Park during the
running of Ireland's Euro 600 and the Irish Derby; Ireland's most
prestigious stakes event. She is a frequent guest on Australia's At
the Boxes radio show with Geoff Collins. She is a Greyhound Hall of
Fame member and a local newspaper correspondent.
Vera is a zestful campaigner for greyhound
adoption and has coordinated several events including the 2005 North
American Greyhound Adoption conference education featured at Derby Lane.
Vera has worked with national producers and coordinated the entire track
segment for National Geographic's Animal Planet feature "Breed All
About It: Greyhounds." The show still airs to date, and was voted
one of the most popular shows of the series. Vera coordinated segments
for the American Greyhound Council's video Ensuring the Welfare of
the Racing Greyhound and just aided with the completion of the new
greyhound adoption video Born To Run sponsored by
Raceforadoption.com to promote greyhound adoptions world wide.
